A Report on the 2009 Queensland Clarinet & Saxophone competition

A Report on the 2009 Queensland Clarinet & Saxophone competition….

This year’s competition was held at Somerville House at South Brisbane on the first weekend of September.  Whilst smaller than previous years, we had 65 competitors from around Queensland including Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and Townsville.  Overall the weekend went smoothly and it seemed that everyone had a good time.   A big thank-you needs to go out to all the people involved in making the weekend successful.  These include Somerville House & Stephen Williams for providing the venue, the QCASS committee and adjudicators (Allison, Amy, Catherine, Claire, Danielle, David, Diana, Floyd, Jonathan, Paula, Rodger, Shane & Stefanie)  who made all the difference, the accompanists Kathy Sander & Mitchell Leigh who seem to be able play anything, MTAQ – for providing a venue for the prize winner concert, the prize sponsors; Billy Hyde Orchestral, BLOW Repairs, Brisbane Brass & Woodwind, Ellaways, Geoff Secomb and Sally Lindenberg Wind & Brass especially those who had a display up on Saturday, and finally to all the students, teachers & parents, who without your commitment, we would not have a competition.

We hope to see you all next year!!

Happy tooting!
Miranda Sue Yek
